Let me start by saying that the selections for the origins are great, because none of these stories were ever published in actual The Walking Dead comics nor are they in the collected trade paperbacks. The book follows four major characters, Michonne, Tyreese, Morgan and The Governor, of whom are now featured prominently on the show. It was only disappointing to see Michonne’s story included because there was already an issue released not too long ago about her origins.

We see how Michonne went from an everyday lawyer with a boyfriend and brother to the katanna wielding zombie slayer with both, now zombified, chained to her. How the Governor steered down his dark path of inhumane acts, the one person who lost them self to the shattered world around him. Killing that innocent guy just to feed into his delusion of finding strength in what’s evil. Tyreese is shown how he made his way through this world along with his daughter and her less than respectable boyfriend. Then we have Morgan and his son who try to live as peacefully as they can in their home and as he deals with the thought of his deceased wife. This was the Christmas day and the bond between them was perfectly captured.

Score: 8.1/10

Excelsior!

And stay tuned!
