Fables, DC/Vertigo’s long-running and acclaimed comic book series, is now being targeted for the big screen.
Fables, created in 2002 by Bill Willingham, centers on fairy and folktale characters ranging from Snow White and Cinderella to the Big Bad Wolf and Little Boy Blue, who are kicked out of their world and now live in a secret pocket of New York City. They call themselves “Fables” and have been ousted from their Homelands by “The Adversary” who has taken over their realm. They have since formed a secret community in New York City known as Fabletown.
In 2004, Warner Bros. did try to develop a movie with the Jim Henson Company but they did succeed in getting it to the writing stage.
THR has reported that Harry Potter franchise producers, David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford of Heyday Films, are developing a fantasy film version of the series. Jeremy Slater, who worked on the script for The Fantastic Four reboot, wrote the screenplay and Nikolaj Arcel is set to direct.
Updates to come as more is revealed on it’s progress.
