Infinity #1 Review

Infinity #1

Written by: Jonathan Hickman
Art by: Adam Kubert

That is a heck of a way to start an end of the world scenario. Hickman shows exactly why this team was chosen, it is the most dynamic group and it works. All heroes that are willing to do what has to be done in order to save the world.

I loved that when the event begins, everything falls into place. Where there was many cliffhangers, mysteries, and just a lot of vague foretelling of whats to come, everything was clear from the start as to what we can expect. I think we are in for something exciting because all these heroes have something to offer and up to this point they have done just that. Even Sunspot and Cannonball who prove to be two of the most brave and adventurous. Their humor was a great touch as well when everyone else was busy worrying.

The way Hickman set the tone for the story was perfect. He didn’t beat around the bushes and was very blunt. There is a chance that we may not survive this and we are clearly outmatched in strength, now lets take the fight to them before they come knocking at our doorstep. That is what I want to hear and the attitude I’d like to see from Cap in this kind of situation. I actually got shivers of excitement while reading this and that is what tells me this is something worth following to the every end.

Great start to Infinity and this is one book worth picking up regardless of you views of Marvel events. You’re definitely missing out if your someone who enjoys the Avengers title. It has the same feel, and the artistic nature carries over into this book which is a plus to me. Do yourself a favor and add this to your list if you haven’t already.

Score: 8.4/10

I really enjoyed this one, its good to see one of the reviews touch on the characterization that so many have had issues w/ in Hickmans avengers books…it rings true to me, during the regular issues its obvious Hickman has his favorites, but it works out because those are characters who don’t have solo titles to flesh them out, like cannonball and sunspot, Hyperion, smasher and captain universe….this issue felt more exciting, coherent and cinematic than probably any other first title to an event I have read, it’s intricate, but totally accessible…it also harkens back to the best Starlin stuff as well….if the rest of the event is crafted as well as this issue, it will easily go down as a high water mark in events like these…have you seen the art preview for issue 2? Opena and Weaver can do no wrong, those guys are powerhouses….another great review here

I believe that’s all Opena in the preview, but he’s such a solid artist, his issues in uncanny x force and first couple of avengers were some of my favorite work bar none….and weavers stuff is just so intricate and technical, his version of tony coming out of the iron man suit looks like it’d have to take a month to draw, but judging by how little work these guys have had this year, that might be a fairly accurate time frame haha….definitely looking forward to how this series plays out, and your opinions on it as it drops
