Black Clover “To Tomorrow!” Review

What’s up everyone! Welcome to Beyond The Panel. Coming at you today with talk about Black Clover episode 152, “To Tomorrow!”! After last week’s episode of Black Clover? I couldn’t help but be pumped for what came next this week. Obviously it there wouldn’t be anything action-packed or visually stunning like the previous episode, but now you do know that of these filler episodes there will be diamonds in the rough.

That said, this week’s episode was a long time coming. I think we all looked forward to getting to that point in time where there would be another Magic Knight squad examination. A lot happened over the course of a year between the Eye of the Midnight Sun attack, the Devil Believers, and much more inbetween. This was an episode to anticipate because the Magic Knights are a far cry from what they once were before. They have been humbled, more appreciative of the people around them, more understanding of their duty to everyone including peasants. It matters that they can prove this through their absorbing of more new recruits.

Unfortunately, if you were looking for an episode where they were specifically focused on the entrance exam? You are going to be a bit let down because the main intention seemed to be to give Asta, Noelle, and Yuno a moment of reflection on how far they have come since passing the exam themselves.

I would say that I was more engaged when seeing things from Noelle’s perspective. When it came to Asta and Yuno, you have gotten the gist by now. Though with Noelle there was always so much more to overcome, and so many accomplishments to make. It was worthwhile to genuinely see where her life took the greatest turn since joining the Black Bulls. And it didn’t hurt to also see things from Nozel’s point of view too. It was great to see her just as fired up as Asta to become stronger and break free of that barrier she places over herself as a royal. Having that confidence is great and all, but it doesn’t do much for her as someone who can always be more than what she labels herself as.

Now as great as this episode was, I do feel like there was a missed opportunity to show what some of the new talent might have in store for the Magic Knights down the road. They didn’t have to do full introductions or anything, but maybe just show off some of the magic they could do that maybe we haven’t seen before. Or maybe even just show some of the personality types that the Captains picked out. These are small things, but it would be the best way to show how the Magic Knights have actually grown over the course of the year. It starts by showing how they have changed their perception of what makes someone qualified to be a Magic Knight.

At the same time, I wouldn’t have mind seeing what happened to some of those who didn’t have much magic power. After what Asta proved, you would think that this would be a great time to make an example of what it looks like when you see the potential someone might have, rather than what they have in the moment.

All in all, Black Clover “To Tomorrow!” was a solid episode. This was another necessary episode, and that is all you can really ask for as things continuing building up to the war with the Devil.
