Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 14 “Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event – Group Battle, Part 0” Review

What’s up everyone! Welcome to Beyond The Panel. Coming at you today with talk about Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 14 “Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event – Group Battle, Part 0”! In other words the start to the big story arc that everyone has been talking about. Now I also shouldn’t say THE big story arc, though it is certainly the first one that we have to look forward to. Especially since this is at the same time the episode where Itadori announces himself alive to the rest of his friends. Something told me I already knew how that was going to turn out.

Now by the end of this episode, I could easily see why the manga readers have been so excited for what’s about to unfold in the anime. It’s not as if I had my doubts, but this is a story arc that you get quite often in series like this. One school faces another, and you find that there’s much more going on than simply participating in a school event. Though before I get into that, let’s talk about the return of Itadori. As I said above, I knew the kind of reaction he was going to receive, but I didn’t expect the way that this was also going to humor me. Itadori suffered a brutal death. Not to mention one which the other two took some time to shake off. So it only made sense that finding out two months later that he was still alive was going to come with a bitter response. I mean they hit us with a cheery set-up, and then pulled the rug from our feet with the reality that some people are going to feel some kind of way.

Which brings us to the people who were definitely going to feel some sort of way about the big reveal. Because that is where this story instantly became complicated. I liked how they approached there being more to this than what you were seeing on the surface. What was once just an exchange event, has now evolved into some mission for one school to both participate and find some way to eliminate Itadori. What’s so great about this is the fact that so much can go wrong. You can’t trust that everyone is going to be okay with the mission, you can’t be certain that the right opportunity is ever going to come up, you can’t even be sure that Itadori can be killed that easily without raising some red flags.

From there, we did walk away with a good grasp of what to expect from the first round. I particularly look forward to this part since this is going to be a chance for some of us to see what everyone can do in action. Some we know, but there are many more now who have something unique to show us.

Aside from this, it was good to see that they could make time to address what comes next for the curses. Their plans haven’t been met with success as of late. However, this does not change the foundation of their motivations. What they discussed and agreed upon was a great way to further shake things up considering you don’t know exactly when they plan to make their next move. It could be during the exchange event, or it could be after. Either way you know that they are going to make the same kind of entrance which throws everything into chaos.

Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 14 “Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event – Group Battle, Part 0” served as a perfect set-up for everything we should now anticipate from the event. You know a series like this is a winner when even the school event is serious business, even though there is expectation of goodwill.
