Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 21 “Jujutsu Koshien” Review

What’s up everyone! Welcome to Beyond The Panel. Coming at you today with talk about Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 21 Jujutsu Koshien! I don’t think there is a single person who could have walked away form that previous episode disappointed. It was action-packed, visually stunning, and it was entertaining. This week might be where we come down from that high, but still you want to see where this leaves out characters when the dust settles.

After the events of last week’s assault by the cursed spirits, they pulled no punches with the aftermath. It was pretty shocking to see exactly what the cursed spirits were up to while the invasion took place. Even now I still find myself shocked that there was actually much more to the attack than what we were seeing on the surface. It was easy to think that they were just going to do the usual thing where a school event happens, and the big bads show up at the last minute to ruin the fun. You’ve seen it once, you’ve seen it all with some anime series out there. So it was refreshing to see that there was a whole plan set in place where what we were seeing was just the distraction.

Which doesn’t take away from the invasion either, because that was still thrilling for how it played out. No what stood out most was seeing what this at the same time set-up. For all the talk from the cursed spirits, their plans really did depend on the success of what they just accomplished. That part I did not expect, but I surely welcomed since it proves that there’s much more to these villains than just being powerful. You fear them because they are dangerously clever and resourceful in ways that the jujutsu sorcerers cannot yet comprehend.

This brings us to what came next for the jujutsu sorcerers themselves. It was a point of interest to see just what was going through their heads now after discovering the big loss they just took. The whole thing is kind of funny at the same time. To spend all that time trying to assassinate a student, only to be fooled by the enemy you weren’t taking as seriously as you should have? I was genuinely shocked they did not give Gojo the floor to let everyone have it.

After this came the next thing which continued to shake-up expectations for the arc. In most cases after the attack, that is it for the school event. Though in the case of Jujutsu Kaisen, things did not end there. That I appreciated because it reinforces just how important this was for everyone. You could disagree for the fact that it is baseball which followed as the next activity instead of individual battles. However, by the end of the episode there was something better to take from this event because of it. That being new perspectives. It goes without saying that there was a lot of bad blood going into this school event. The best way to move forward was for a lot of these characters to begin pulling back their layers and tearing down walls between one another.

By the end of the episode they created a lot of room for these characters to grow as individuals too. Whether from the Tokyo school or the other, they managed to give us a taste of what we should expect from some of these characters in the episodes to come. Especially those with a new resolve to what they became jujutsu sorcerers for.

Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 21 “Jujutsu Koshien” overall served as a great conclusion to the craziness which unfolded. From assassination attempts to a full-on big bad encounter. They really delivered with this arc.
