Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World “Love Me Down to My Blood and Guts” Review

***Spoiler Review***

What’s up everyone! Welcome to Beyond The Panel. Coming at you today with talk about Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World “Love Me Down to My Blood and Guts”! Something about that title will leave you feeling a bit ominous about what this episode had in store for us. Especially if you were someone who has really been rooting for Garfiel since he turned things around.

Can you say best episode of season two so far? Because this guy surely can! As I said last week, this part here was something to feel exhilarated for. There have been numerous encounters in the past, but never a true battle like this. Garfiel versus Elsa was freaking epic. I would say that the brilliant choice they made here was the fact that Garfiel was using his own power, instead of relying on his transformation to simply overpower someone. This created a beautiful choreography of action between the two. Blades against claws, against a shield which took one hell of a beating before giving way. There was a point in the episode where I even hoped that we would just see these two clashing from start to finish. That’s how much they impressed me.

What actually shocked me was the opportunity taken to also tell Elsa’s story in the process. You knew that this had to mean she was not going to see the end of this, but at the same time it was appreciated to understand why this monster is the way that she is. At the same time it didn’t hurt to discover why it is that she is so hard to kill too. That just added to the excitement of what this world has to offer in enemies.

This brings us to what Subaru got himself into taking Guilty Lau with Otta and Petra. How they got out of that one was very clever. This part was appreciated because it is times like this where we need to see that not every battle has to be won by who has the advantage in power. Sometimes you can just be the smartest in the room, or the most resourceful.

Now holy crap, the end of this episode was so unexpected! As someone who hasn’t read the manga, I was not prepared for where they were going with this confrontation between Ram and Roswaal. After the past couple episodes even I had to admit that I didn’t fully understand Ram’s intentions. I knew that she wanted to save Roswaal, but the question was how. This guy is powerful, and it seemed like the only way to beat this guy was to put him six feet under. Though what you couldn’t have prepared for was everything Ram was willing to do to free Roswaal from his obsessions, and how far she was willing to go for something else that she wanted him to understand in the process.

And let’s not even get me started on the action too. That was thrilling! Up to this point we knew both Ram and Puck were formidable with magic, but who would have guessed Roswaal would be as powerful as he turned out to be? I was genuinely blown away by how much firepower he had. What brought the whole scene together was the excellent background music that made the whole scene epic.

Beyond this, things definitely got interesting as Emilia tackled her last trial. This one went fairly fast, but I was okay with that. When you’ve conquered your past and present? The future is not as scary as you think it is. Instead this led to an engaging scene shared between Emilia and someone you didn’t expect to make themself present to her. In the end they did not disappoint us either in showing that Emilia has grown as someone who can handle herself.

Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World “Love Me Down to My Blood and Guts” in the end was a magnificent episode. On that I wouldn’t mind watching a second time, or even a third for the thrill they delivered.
